Mike accepted life as his standard of value and held to his belief that life is good and worth living - with intensity. His courage in fighting life's hardships has been a constant reminder that the greatest honor we can pay him would be to apply what he taught us to our own life situations - i.e., to try to live more rational, purposeful lives rather than to give in to the irrationality and negativity that surrounds us.

"The ultimate purpose of my articles is not merely to provide the readers with another training program(s), and expect him to blindly follow it. That would not be worth much long range. Instead, my purpose is to help you gain a firm intellectual/conceptual grasp and understanding of the basic principles of bodybuilding/exercise science; which is a prerequisite for learning how to think logically about it. Having procured a logical, rational perspective, makes it possible for one to become more or less intellectually independent on the subject; never again having to rely on the vascillating, suspect opinion of others. In the process of learning to think logically about bodybuilding, you'll discover that you've learned something about the nature of thought itself; which can then be extended to other areas of human life. And with continued study and effort, you will progressively expand your intellectual range; and, thereby, mature as a human being should."
As Mike loved to point out, we live in a rational, knowable universe of clear-cut identity, that knowledge and certainty are possible, and that there is no dichotomy between mind and body. He provided us with a lifetime worth of knowledge of bodybuilding, fitness, philosophy, peak performance, physical rehabilitation, and motivational wisdom. Such a vast contribution is impressive - and comforting, in that each time we read something from Mike, he is with us again. Just ask anyone who proudly wears his HEAVY DUTY© logo shirt to the gym - they will tell you that one or both of the Mentzer brothers are "inspiring" them on through their workouts.
